New Vision has wasted no time in moving ahead on what Pietraszek said will be a $20 million project. Since it submitted plans to the city’s Land Use Review Division in late April, New Vision has demolished a shuttered, single-story bank facility that stood on the site. The company wanted the property cleared in preparation for construction, which Pietraszek now says probably will begin in mid-October and be finished 12 months later. The Hilton Garden Inn will be downtown’s first newly constructed hotel in more than four decades and its first high-rise building in 15 years. As planned, the hotel will have about 20 suites among its 165 rooms – including two penthouse suites, Pietraszek said. The hotel will have retail on the ground floor, a restaurant and about 5,000 square feet of meeting space on the second floor and guest rooms from the third through 10th floor, he said.
